Classroom Information & Expectations
Classroom Expectations: You are expected to be:
Prompt - Students are expected to be in their seats before the bell rings to begin class and begin the warm up activities when the bell rings
Prepared - Students will come to class with all necessary materials including notebook, paper, pencils, textbooks and be ready to work.
Polite - In our class all individuals will treat each other with respect. This means listen politely when someone is speaking, raise your hand to make a spoken comment, and use polite language at all times.
Positive - All comments and contributions will be made in a manner that promotes a positive atmosphere. Give your best effort on class activities and assignments. If you are having trouble with an activity ASK for help or more information (Ask a fellow student, refer to the text or your notes, ask the teacher.)
Participate - Make decisions to contribute to your own learning. Join in class activities.
Ask questions during class. Complete assignments on time and in a thoughtful manner.
All of these rules or “5 P’s” contain the essential elements to make the classroom environment one in which learning takes place. Following these rules will promote a spirit of cooperation that will facilitate learning for all students.
If a student is off task or misbehaving they will have their name written on the white board under “Warnings” and lose 5 minutes of recess time for each infraction. Multiple warnings will result in parent notification.
Communication
I will be updating the FACTS (RenWeb) gradebook and our class website (http://bblacker.weebly.com) with homework assignment information regularly. If you have any questions or concerns for your student feel free to email me at [email protected] or call me in my classroom between 3:00 and 3:30 after school.
Absences & Make-Up Work
The class website always provides weekly assignment updates and should be checked if ever unsure about the homework. When you are absent you can also contact a homework buddy about what you missed in class and what your homework is. If you still have questions or need to schedule a time to make-up a test or quiz, speak with me immediately upon your return to school. You get as many days as you missed to complete your work for full credit (for example, if you are absent for three days, you’ll get three days to complete the work you missed).
Late assignments will be accepted and graded as follows:
First day late: 80% of the earned grade
Second day late: 70% of the earned grade
Third day late: discretion of the teacher
Late assignments turned in at any point throughout the trimester (after the third late day) will be graded at 50% of the earned grade.
Homework - Students will be assigned homework regularly. If you are having trouble with your workload, please speak to me and we can work something out.
Homework will be written on the board and updated on the website. Homework should always be written down in the student’s planner when it is assigned in class.
